Frequently Asked Questions

1.) How do I register?

Sign up for the climb by clicking here. Limited to the first 343 firefighters, so hurry.

2.) What do I wear?

Bring your “turnouts”. That means structure helmet, structure jacket, and structure pants at minimum. Tool belts are also okay, but please leave SCBAs and other tools, the space in the stairwell is tight.

3.) Registration is full, how can I get on the standby list?

Once we get 343 registered firefighters, a Standby List will be created. Last year we exhausted a list of 80+ standby climbers, so sign up, show up, and be ready to step in to honor a fallen brother. To get on the standby list, use the same event registration website (here) and you will be added. Your card will not be charged unless you participate. Your Registration fee on that site will count for your climb registration should you end up carrying a Brothers name.

4.) Can I sign up for the Climb if I am not a Firefighter.

Unfortunately no. The Stair Climb is for Firefighters only.

5.) I can’t make it to the climb, can I get a refund?

Sorry that you will not be joining us, and thank you for your donation to FDNY’s Widow and Orphans Fund. Someone from the standby list will be there to carry the name to the roof.

Special Thanks

We would like to acknowledge the Firefighters First Credit Union for their help in making last year’s 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb such a fitting tribute.
